You Can Be A Part Of The Washington County Fair
– By James McFadden –
April 14-22, 2023
I remember when I was younger, growing up in southern California, one of the things I always looked forward to each year was the County Fair…
My sister always had something entered through the FFA or 4-H, and every year she took home an award. One year she even took home a Grand Champion award for raising a bottle-fed calf.
I always looked forward to the fair; it was a time to explore new flavors, ride thrilling rides, peruse amazing exhibits, experience new adventures, and hang out with all my friends and make new ones too. One year I even worked at the fair; I lived in a camper on the grounds, and even though I found the love of my life ( I was barely 16 or 17 at the time, what did I know!) Boy were those the days!
Since moving here to southern Utah, our family has kept up the tradition of attending the fair, and there is one aspect of the fair I think most people overlook, which is you too can be a part of the fair!
Are you an Artist? Well, you can enter your art into the Art competition and display your work in the Art exhibit! Are you a writer? Again… you can enter your work, your stories, and your visions into the fair’s community competition exhibits. Other notable subjects are 4-H, Animal Shows, Field & Crops, Fine Arts, Home Arts, Literary Arts, and Horticulture.
You MUST enter online prior to the deadline. Registration closes on April 8th. An exhibitor may enter a total of 25 items in home arts and 10 items in fine arts. The same item duplicated cannot be entered in more than one department. To be considered for any premium money, ALL items must be registered online. Questions? Call 435-634-5706.
