Z-Arts hosts Carol Bold, Royden Card, and Abraham McCowan gallery show
By Joyce Hartless
The Zion Canyon Arts & Humanities Council is pleased to host the three-person relief printmaking exhibition, titled “Off the Block,” featuring the woodcuts of Carol Bold, Royden Card, and Abraham McCowan. This gallery show will be on display at the Canyon Community Center in Springdale Nov. 5–Dec. 17.
Please join us for an artist reception Nov. 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and stay to hear the Zion Forever lecture starting at 7:30 p.m. titled “Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange in Southern Utah: Collaborators, Competitors, Best Friends and Enemies.” Refreshments will be served at the reception, and admission is free.
Carol Bold has an eye for the dramatic, using vivid colors to create iconic imagery that captures the beauty of the southwest in a way it has never been seen before.
Royden Card taught printmaking at BYU for 16 years. After ten years producing black-and-white woodcuts exclusively during that time, his prints convey the majesty of the desert in small, Zen-like views.
Abraham McCowan uses a woodcut process to capture the largeness of the desert as well as the complex details of the desert plant forms to draw the viewer in and fuel his creativity.
Together, these three artists complement one another’s work and create a fascinating show of great variety.
The Canyon Community Center is located at 126 Lion Blvd. in Springdale. It is open to the public Mondays–Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. The gallery is closed on Sundays and all state and federal holidays.
