The town of Springdale, in cooperation with Zion National Park, will celebrate the 11th Annual Zion Canyon Earth Day in Springdale on Saturday, April 18, on the lawn of the Bit and Spur Restaurant starting at 11:00 a.m. This annual event draws over 1,000 participants in celebration of the Earth.
Live solar-powered music will be accompanied by art and food vendors, as well as educational demonstrations about alternative energy, native plants, solar ovens, environmental art, and sustainable products. Kids can participate in various activities, including a reading of Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax.”
The Earth Day Committee believes that educational events like Earth Day inform the public about the importance of sustainability and alternative energy sources. The Town of Springdale is continuing its efforts to offset the energy used in public facilities through solar power with their current 96.4 kW solar generating capacity. Additionally, private residents collectively have 36 kW. The Town of Springdale has been recognized as an EPA Green Power Community since 2008.
The 11th Annual Zion Canyon Earth Day will include a silent auction and a beer and wine garden. The Bit and Spur Restaurant is located at 1212 Zion Park Boulevard. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sponsors for the event include The Bit and Spur Restaurant, Town of Springdale, Cliffrose Lodge and Gardens, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, Flanigan’s Inn, Poll Sound, Wasatch Brewery, and Squatters Brewery.
