indymusicFor the first time in our 20-year history, The Independent will present an array of community awards to celebrate all the talent that we have in southern Utah.

Each category will carry a “People’s Choice” and an “Editors’ Choice” winner. Over the next 10 days, we will open nominations for one category a day. Nominations for all categories will remain open until Nov. 1. All nominees must be current residents of southern Utah or be business local to southern Utah.

Voting for the People’s Choice categories will take place on The Independent website during November.

Winners for both the People’s Choice and Editors’ Choice awards will be announced on The Independent website and in our January 2017 print edition.

Today, we open the nominating period for our music awards!

  1. Wirelephant – guitarist and their bass player. Not sure which bass player, but the one who was at the 2nd to last Jazzy show.. (got ejected at their last show just before the opening song. Lol – ) I saw the same bassist play solo 2-3 yrs back at jazzys with a beat box and loop. Told him he was the Stanley Clark of S. Utah. He is at a level beyond words. In a tougher more competitive category, the lead guitarist of Wirephant is the local shredder in the neighborhood. When he is in the zone he plays voodoo child as well as Hendrix and is at par with Stevie Ray V. hope they play streetfest again. No jazzys for me. 🙂
