Brigham’s Playhouse was allotted $40,000 of Recreation, Arts, and Parks (RAP) Tax funding on Jan. 27. Members of the Washington City Council met to discuss myriad topics, including the distribution of RAP Tax funds to organizations and businesses that qualified. Brigham’s Playhouse was among the organizations eligible for RAP Tax consideration.

Supporters and fans of Brigham’s Playhouse throughout the city took action to let city council members know that they were in support of the distribution of the funds for this cause. On the night of the meeting, city council members commented on the quantity of letters and supporters for Brigham’s Playhouse efforts to receive RAP funding. Along with the outpouring of letters and emails, attendance at the council meeting by passionate supporters was so great that the overflow area with additional seating had to be opened.

During the meeting, Brigham’s Playhouse was encouraged to return in six months to request the additional $25,000 that was requested. Brigham’s Playhouse expressed its gratitude for the time, letters, phone calls, and outpouring of love and enthusiasm that has been shown and continues to be shown by the City of Washington.

“We commit to do everything in our power to continue providing light to the world and our great community through wholesome family theatre art,” said a Brigham’s Playhouse spokesperson.

Until the next round of applications is accepted for additional RAP Tax money in six months, Brigham’s Playhouse is accepting tax-deductible donations to cover the costs of additional needs not being covered by the RAP tax money.
