After more than twenty years of providing a place for southern Utah progressives to meet other like-minded individuals—be they Democrats, Independents, or unaffiliated—the Democrats of Southern Utah political action committee (PAC) is disbanding. They will be hosting their final holiday celebration on Monday, Dec. 8, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Democrats of Southern Utah was originally formed to offer progressives a place to socialize, exchange ideas, and listen to inspirational speakers in a luncheon setting. However, Cyril Noble, president of the Democrats of Southern Utah believes the Democratic Party in southern Utah has grown enough that members should start focusing their energies directly to the Washington County Democratic Party.

Della Lowe, chairperson of the Washington County Democratic Party congratulated Noble and the Democrats of Southern Utah for their work over the past twenty years.

“The WCDP welcomes the DOSU members into a more direct relationship with the Party and knows they will add other voices and opinions to the debate,” Lowe said. “The Washington County Democratic Party is looking for ways to incorporate many of the activities and speaker programs previously offered by the DOSU into its programs for the community.”

In addition to the Democrats of Southern Utah luncheons, other activities for progressives in the community that will continue to occur include Conversation Over Easy breakfast meetings every Wednesday morning at George’s Restaurant in St. George and Talk and Tapas events held on the second Sunday of every month in the homes of area progressives.

The Democrats of Southern Utah will hold their final holiday celebration on Monday, Dec. 8, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Best Western Abbey Inn, located at 1129 S. Bluff Street in St. George. Dinner and entertainment will be provided at $10 for members and $18 for guests. Reservations to the final event are required and may be taken care of by contacting Marjorie Lisi at (435) 215-9899 or by email at [email protected].
