Bay Pointe Ballet will be the next group to grace the Cox Fine Arts Center stage as part of DSU’s Celebrity Concert Series. They will perform “Dracula” on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, October 20 and 21, at 7:30 p.m. The tale of Dracula’s eternal search for the woman he loves is based on the novel by Bram Stoker and brought to life by Bruce Steivel’s innovative choreography. Costumes are allowed and encouraged at all “Dracula” performances.

Before serving as artistic and executive director of the Bay Pointe Ballet, Steivel served as the artistic director of Bern Stadt Theatre in Switzerland, the Hong Kong Ballet, the Universal Ballet of Korea, and Nevada Ballet Theatre, where he served as artistic director for more than 10 years. He studied under some of the greatest names in modern ballet history, including George Balanchine, Robert Lindgren, Leon Danileon, Vicente Nebrada, and Alexandra Danilova.

Several dedicated members of the California arts community conceived Bay Pointe Ballet in 2013. Its purpose is to promote family oriented entertainment to the public along with a high level of training in the school. The 32 professional dancers
are primarily from the Bay Area and the faculty consists of dancers from the company along with other members of the dance community holding a degree in dance.

“We are thrilled with the programming that is in place this year,” says Steve Lemmon, the cultural arts programming director for DSU. The CCS was established in 1958 for the main purpose of bringing world-class entertainment to our community. Fifty-seven years later, it continues in that tradition.

The 2015-2016 season features rhythmic tap performed to beat-boxing, ethnic dance, classical quartets, a full symphony, a child prodigy singing big band favorites, vocal groups singing pop anthems, ballroom dance, and a brass ensemble. Of course, in all programming decisions, quality and professionalism remain the core values, but DSU is excited to continue to grow and evolve and bring the cultural arts experience to an increasingly diverse group of attendees.
