Eagle Point ResortOnly 3.5 hours from Las Vegas and Salt Lake City and just two hours from St. George lies a skier’s paradise, Eagle Point Resort. When you exit Interstate 15 at Beaver, you’re not going to see a bustling ski town with a lively night life, restaurants, and bars — but not to worry. Once you drive the short 18 miles up the canyon, it begins to resemble everything you look for in a ski resort: great weekend entertainment, several dining options, hot tubs, and of course the best skiing and snowboarding within 200 miles of Vegas! This mountain is blessed with a total of 12,000 vertical acres to work with and 600 acres of skiable terrain. Eagle Point Resort has by far the steepest slopes of any resort in southern Utah, bar none. Top that off with the smallest lift lines — they’re practically non-existent — and best value anywhere and you’ve got to consider making Eagle Point Resort your home away from home.

Eagle Point ResortPhotographer and graphic designer for The Independent Josh Segovia and I were treated to a wonderful weekend of skiing, snowboarding, and great food. The locals and staff topped it off with their own style of hospitality and generous smiles. We had a weekend of first-class friendliness with a dose of high-quality comfort in our condo with separate bedrooms, a huge private loft, and king-sized beds. Opening day was Dec. 19 and started our weekend off with well-groomed, snow-packed runs. The next day, however, we received an extra 2–4 inches of fresh powder that made for epic conditions on an already great base.

Ski-and-stay rates start as low as $50 per person when four or more elect to make it a weekend to remember. You’ll have several condominium options to consider, so make it a Eagle Point Resortromantic weekend for two couples, or bring the whole family. Guests are treated to the convenience and privacy of separate one- or two-bedroom suites with lofts, full kitchens, flat-screen TVs, real fireplaces, and everything you’ll need to cook a home-cooked meal. It’s just another way to save those vacation dollars while enjoying all that this year-round resort has to offer.

Make 2016 your year to experience Eagle Point Resort. El Nino is upon us, and it looks to be a fabulous ski season, so get those boards and skis turned up for perfectly-groomed runs and loads of untouched Utah powder! It’s close enough to make it a day trip but priced right to make it a fun weekend adventure in the peaks of Fishlake National Forest in the Tushar Mountains.
