Enoch Fire

Written by Tracie Sullivan

Enoch authorities are reporting three people dead this morning after their home located at 4568 Pioneer Drive caught fire Monday evening.

City Manager Rob Dotson confirmed the three deaths, two women and one man; however, names are not being released at this time as officials are attempting to locate next of kin.

Electrical wires and cords are suspected as causing the fire, Dotson reported.

“There were a lot of cords in the garage that started on fire and ignited some nearby materials,” he said.

Authorities say the fire destroyed the home and left some physical damage to the house on the south side but nothing major.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office and Enoch Police initially responded to the scene at approximately 10:30 p.m.

“They attempted entry through a window but found the smoke was too dense and were unable to gain access,” Dotson said.

Firefighters arrived shortly afterwards.

Neighbors reported hearing a large boom which authorities said was likely caused by the vehicles that also caught fire at the time.

Red Cross representatives have been called in and will be available for any grief counseling needed.

“They brought food in early this morning to the firefighters and they also plan on helping with taking care of the animals that are left on the property which includes a couple of cats and dogs and three or four horses,” Dotson said.

Ed. note: Just after 10 a.m., the City of Enoch released the names of the victims: Frances Brewington, 70; Cynthia Shaffer, 46; and Jay Brewington, 32.
