Flash flood warning - When thunder rollsThe National weather service in Salt Lake City has issued a Severe Weather and Flash Flood Warning for Southeastern areas in Washington County as well as Southeastern Kane County until 6:15pm this evening.

The warning issued at 2:20pm this afternoon advised that Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing heavy rain over drainages leading into the Colorado City and the Southeast portion of Zion National Park

According to Washington County dispatch. Flooding is currently occurring in Colorado City with water coming over several roads in the area.

Radar rainfall in the amount of 2 inches per hour have fallen and could impact other areas.

Other locations that could experience flash flooding include: Zion National Park, Hildale, Orderville, Springdale, Rockville, The Coral Pink Sand Dunes and Mt Carmel.

Authorities warn residents not to enter flooded roadways or washes and to move to higher ground if experiencing flooding.

  1. Thank you SU Independent for including a storm warning such as this. Wish that more people would pay attention and not become victims by not heeding or accidentally finding themselves in harms way by being gawking bystanders. Storms are not entertainment and deserve respect. I feel so bad for the people who lost their lives yesterday, but it does go to show how unpredictable these things are and when warnings are issued should be taken seriously.
