Flood Advisory
National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT
251 AM MDT SAT AUG 5 2017
The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a

* Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas for…
South central Washington County in southwestern Utah…

* Until 445 AM MDT

* At 246 AM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from
thunderstorms that will cause minor flooding. Overflowing poor
drainage areas will result in minor flooding in Utah’s Dixie early
this morning. Additionally, normally dry washes in the area are
expected to flow creating additional minor flooding concerns for
surrounding downstream areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
St George, Washington, Hurricane, Santa Clara, La Verkin, Ivins and
Bloomington.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry
washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
