Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Oats are filled with fiber and protein. They help build the immune system, lower cholesterol, promote cardiovascular health, and so much more! Start your day with this nutrition-filled bowl of goodness!  Say goodbye to sugary cold cereals that are expensive for your wallet as well as for your body! Muesli is quick and easy to make on the spot. Or, keep a supply in the refrigerator. For one person, this lasts several months. It also makes a great snack and travels well. Just add your favorite moisture.4 1/2 cups rolled oats (or gluten-free oats)
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup toasted wheat germ (to avoid gluten, substitute ground flax or chia seeds)
1/2 cup dried fruit, chopped (apricots, prunes, cherries, blueberries, etc.)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes (optional)
1/4 cup raw sunflower seeds
1 tbsp cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, powdered vanilla, and/or nutmeg (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well. Store in an airtight container in refrigerator.

Yield: 8 cups

Tips:

– If you’ve never tried this granola-type breakfast, you’re in for a real treat.

– You can serve this with a cold, non-dairy milk of your choice. To eat it warm, you can add non-dairy milk and heat it in the microwave. When I travel, it’s easy to just use the hot water from a tea and coffee area.

– Like it a little sweet? Try mixing equal parts unsweetened applesauce with pure maple syrup, and stir a couple of teaspoons into your muesli just before eating.

As with any cereal, adding fresh fruit (banana, peaches strawberries, cherries, blueberries, etc.) makes it even more delicious.
