Former NASA astronaut Dr. James Reilly speaks in St. GeorgeFormer NASA astronaut Dr. James Reilly will be the special guest speaker at the Southern Utah Home Builders Association 2017 Safety Awards Luncheon June 6. The event will be held at Courtyard by Marriott in St. George from noon to 1 p.m.

Reilly’s talk, titled “Home Building at 5 Miles Every Second: Protect Your Margins,” makes comparisons between building the International Space Station and conventional construction. He will also speak about identifying risks and how protecting margins rests on communication and culture. He will share his experience with Continuous Improvement Practices. Dr. Reilly will also be presenting an afternoon session that day at the same location from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. This topic will be “Taking a Team from Good to Great” and will talk about the lessons learned from The Deepwater Horizon drilling rig accident and The Columbia Accident: A Lesson in Management and Communications Breakdowns.
