Martin Luther King Day at DSUThe Independent

The DSU Black Student Union is not only hosting a guest speaker in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr, they have secured a special screening of “Selma” at Pineview Stadium Theater. As part of the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Dixie State University and the DSU Black Student Union will host a lecture and dedication on Tuesday, January 20, at 12 noon, at the Gardner Student Center Lounge. The event is free and open to all DSU students, faculty, staff and the community to attend.

The event will feature a keynote lecture delivered by Dr. Bryan K. Hotchkins, who serves as a postdoctoral research associate in the University of Utah’s Political Science Department. Dr. Hotchkins is a frequent guest lecturer on the topic of race relations within higher education. He has also been published in several higher education and public administration journals.

Following the lecture, DSU President Dr. Richard B. Williams will dedicate a new light post at the Gardner Center that will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In addition to the event, the DSU Black Student Union is sponsoring a special screening of the recently released feature film, “Selma,” that evening at the Pine View Megaplex Theater at 7:40 p.m. Tickets are available at the DSU Dean of Students office for $6, $3 for DSU students and faculty and staff with current ID.
