Mesquite’s Conestoga Golf Club is less than 40 minutes from St. George and only an hour north of Las Vegas. This course proudly boasts that they are the only Troon-managed facility featured on the Golf Channel’s “Best Buddy Trips.” If you haven’t played this gem, now is your perfect opportunity. This is the time of year for locals to find the best values, and for just $49, you can play all the golf your little heart desires, with lunch, a cart, range balls, and an ice-cold towel to help you beat the heat!

Conestoga is definitely one of my favorite Troon-managed facilities west of the Mississippi. It’s always in great shape, perfectly manicured, and provides a challenging change of pace from your basic conventional design.

Designed by Gary Panks, this 18-hole scenic masterpiece is artfully interwoven with character, and blends in very well with the undulating canyons surrounding nearly every hole. There are some serious elevation changes that will provide hang times lasting several seconds, and a variety of tee boxes ranging from 5,889 to 7,232 yards from the tips!

With an abundance of dramatic beauty from dawn to dusk, this course showcases the best of the best in desert golf. More than 50 strategically placed bunkers will test your shot-making abilities, along with water hazards on two holes and the Abott and Pulsipher Washes tempting fate on five holes. With every detail permanently ingrained in your memory banks, you’ll be tested to your limits.

Conestoga has earned numerous accolades from some of golf’s best-known critics:

  • GOLF MAGAZINE – 2012/13 “Best Courses Near You” – Nevada #7
  • GOLFWEEK – 2012/13 “Best You Can Play” – Nevada #5
  • TRIP ADVISOR – 2013 “Certificate of Excellence”
  • GOLFWEEK – 2011 ” Best New Courses” – #14
  • GOLF MAGAZINE – May 2011 “Best Trips”
  • MESQUITE LOCAL NEWS – “Best Golf Course in Mesquite – 2011”
  • LINKS MAGAZINE – “Best New Courses of 2010” – #18

I highly recommend you check out their “Nevada Troon Card.” A significant discount is given to those who purchase this card for twosomes and foursomes, especially if your trip includes Las Vegas. They also offer annual programs and “Troon Rewards,” a free loyalty program that gives you points for every dollar you spend at any Troon-managed facility, which are good for free rounds of golf, merchandise in the pro shop, and much more.

Your Troon Rewards account keeps you posted whenever there’s a tournament or special offer available, like the unbeatable $35 twilight rate for “all you can play” golf after 10 a.m., July 3 through Aug. 31.

So grab your golf buddies and take a short, scenic drive from St. George to one of Golf Digest’s “Hottest Places to Play.” Spend the weekend enjoying Mesquite’s casino entertainment, fine dining, and seven additional golf courses to choose from; what more could you ask for?

I love golfing in Mesquite. However, from my perspective, the Conestoga Golf Club is my crown jewel in the desert. Check out their Happy Hour specials from 2-6 p.m, featuring $1 tacos, $2 draft beers, and more. Tee times may be made online at www.conestogagolf.com, or by calling the golf shop at (877) 489-0777 (toll free) or (702) 346-4292. Be sure to ask about their “Stay and Play” packages.
