Southern Utah Heritage Choir Christmas concert features George DyerThe Southern Utah Heritage Choir’s annual Christmas concert, “That Holy Night” featuring George Dyer, will be held Dec. 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cox Performing Arts Center. The concert is under the direction of conductor Dr. Ken Peterson, artistic director and pianist Dr. Nancy Allred, organist Karen Cantera, and pianist Susan Gubler.

Dyer will perform “Ave Maria,” “Mary Did You Know,” “Believe,” “Thankful,” “White Christmas,” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” He will also sing with the choir on “O Holy Night” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.” The choir will also perform “Gloria Fanfare” by Jeffrey Ames and “How Great Our Joy” by Craig Courtney. Other traditional songs will include “Joy to the World,” “Coventry Carol,” “The First Noel,” “Sing We Now of Christmas,” “Silent Night,” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.”

Dyer made his professional operatic debut with the New York City Opera as Ralph Rackstraw in “H.M.S. Pinafore” at the Lincoln Center. Dyer has performed extensively throughout North America and abroad and has been a guest soloist on numerous occasions with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

In the fall of 2009, “The George Dyer Show” opened in Branson, Missouri at the Dutton Family Theater. In 2010, Dyer was awarded “Vocalist of the Year” by bransoncritic.com and “Best Male Vocalist” by bransonshowawards.com and was again awarded “Best Male Vocalist” in 2012. Dyer was named “Best Male Recording Artist” of the year in 2001, 2004 and 2006 by the Faith Centered Music Association. He has released three solo recordings on the Shadow Mountain Label: “Wondrous Love,” “Then Sings My Soul,” and “A New Song,” all of which received Pearl Awards. He has released four recordings since opening his show in Branson: “Branson Show, Vol. 1,” “Everything,” “Feelin’ Good,” and “Believe in Christmas,” which was awarded “Best Christmas CD” by bransonshowawards.com in 2010.

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, George currently lives and performs in Branson.

Upcoming Heritage Choir performances for the 2016–17 season include the spring concert “Arise, Shine” on Feb. 17 in the Cox Performing Arts Center with guest cellist Dr. Ka-Wai Yu.
