St. George Temple Visitors’ Center hosts Del Parson exhibitSt. George Temple Visitors’ Center will host an exhibition by Del Parson, a professor of drawing and painting at Dixie State University, entitled “Because of His Love.” Fourteen digital prints of Parson’s art will be on display. The exhibit will run from Sept. 30 through Oct. 31 and is free and open to the public.

Parson grew up in Rexburg, Idaho, where he acquired his love of art from his father who was an art professor at Ricks College. After earning a master’s degree from Brigham Young University, Parson became a gallery and portrait artist. In 1978, his wife and daughter were killed in a car accident, after which he began to paint religious subjects.

“When you feel inspired, a painting takes on a life of its own,” Parson said. “When that happens, the experience is pure joy. It is moments like these that an artist loves best.”

Parson now lives in Utah with his wife and six children. Both his religious and historical paintings have received numerous regional and national awards. Parson’s work has been exhibited at the Allied Artists of America, National Academy of Design, Knickerbocker Artist, American Artists Professional League, and the Amarillo Rotary Show.

The St. George Temple Visitors’ Center is located at 490 S 300 E in St. George and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
