Staheli Family Farm begins fall season with new events

Staheli Family Farm’s 2018 Corn Maize is “Ag-venture’s first stop.” The 2018 slogan is a combination of Maverik Country Store’s adventure theme and the farm’s 129-year-old agricultural tradition. Over 12 years ago, the Staheli family saw a need to educate children about where food comes from and decided to incorporate “agritourism” into their business model. Each year, the farm hosts an average of 30,000 Corn Maize visitors during the fall season alone! A farm for all seasons, events are presented throughout the year, including farm camp, school field trips, Easter egg hunts, live nativity presentations, and charity fundraising events. The farm also hosts weddings, reunions, and holiday parties.

The partnership with Maverik brings many new attractions to the farm. The most-popular attraction is the Field of Screams, a haunted house that opens into a terrifying trip through the corn field where creepy characters await at every turn to evoke blood-curdling screams in the darkness. New this year is the Zombie Rampage, a monster bus equipped with paintball guns in every window. Once aboard, each Zombie Kill Team will embark on a journey through a zombie junkyard, where any target is fair game!

Meanwhile, on the sweeter side of the farm, boys and girls of all ages can explore the Corn Maize, farmland, petting zoo, playground, ball zone, and pumpkin patch. Weekends include free music, dances, and entertainment. Special attractions requiring tokens include the paintball zone, Gemstone mining, pony rides, cow train rides, and the spooky trick-or-treat trail (a kids’ haunted house). After a fun hayride, visitors can stop at the Chuck Wagon Diner for homemade specialties of scones with honey butter, corn chowder with corn bread, chili-cheese fries, and the family recipe caramel pumpkin pie. Yum!

Staheli Family Farm is happy to announce the 10th anniversary of its “Witchy Weekends” this year. “Witches Night Out” is a costume party for ladies 18 and older, and families enjoy “Waffles & Witches.” Both of these events require reservations and include admission to the farmland and Corn Maize. The farm has some pretty famous “nice” witches who return every year to entertain the children in the farmland with free face-painting, puppet shows, and photos with the family. Ask any local kids and they’ll tell you which witch is their favorite!

One more event worth mentioning is the one-day “Giant Pumpkin Drop” Oct. 6 at 5:30 pm. The farm has teamed up with the Utah Giant Pumpkin Growers Association to bring you a spectacle you won’t find anywhere else in southern Utah. Giant pumpkins will be hoisted high into the sky and dropped on some interesting objects. This could get messy! Between drops, Farmer Mike will be loading the candy cannon and shooting buckets full of candy into the crowd. This event is free with paid admission to the farm.

The farm fall season begins Sept. 22nd at noon. A full calendar and daily schedule is available at stahelifamilyfarm.com along with tickets, hours, photos, and more information. As always, memories will be made in the perfect fall weather in the fresh country air at Staheli Family Farm, located at 3400 S. Washington Fields Road in Washington. Yee-haw!
