A textile exhibit, “Textures of Life,” is currently on display at the Sears Art Museum Gallery at Dixie State University. The exhibit showcases an eclectic mix of media from clothing to quilts by Sandra Sandberg, a local artist and teacher who oversees a weaving studio at the Ridge Top Complex.
“Although it is textile, just keep those ‘want to touch’ urges under control,” Sandberg jokingly cautioned.
Both old and new pieces from various artists are displayed alongside Sandberg’s works. Among them, a rare tapestry reproduction of Salvador Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” is on display.
Just outside the gallery, in the Eccles Fine Arts Grand Foyer, is Cherlyn Johnson’s “Window Sill Series.” In this exhibit, Johnson shares the artwork of her mother, Beverly Canty-Marshall. Also displayed in the foyer is a new donation from Sue Kardas featuring hand-built ceramic cathedrals by her late mother, Jenny Kardas.
“The opportunity to share a legacy and to make sure art objects have a secure future depends on patrons who understand the importance of art to our culture and civilization,” DSU’s Art Curator Kathy C. Cieslewicz said.
The exhibit is located on the DSU campus in the Eccles Fine Arts Center, located at 155 S. University Ave., and will remain through Aug. 25. It is free to the public and open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
