At approximately 8:05 PM, after roughly 1 hour of deliberation, a four-person jury found Varlo Davenport not guilty of the class B misdemeanor assault charge levied upon him indirectly by Dixie State University through the city of St. George. The trial began Wednesday, July 13th and took the better part of two days to come to a close.
“Let’s get out of here” is all a notably shaken but relieved and overjoyed Davenport had to say.
The Independent has been covering the story almost exclusively now since its beginning in the early months of 2015 when the suspicious circumstances surrounding Davenport’s firing in late 2014 came to light. It cannot be understated how important this victory is not only for Davenport’s life but for the shedding of light on the pattern of arbitrary and capricious conduct on the part of the college and the fact that this is not an isolated incident.
See you out there.
What are the other incidents?
Could the misuse of funds so faculty can fund their own projects be one?
