Western Legends Round-Up offers a week of Western wonder

Howdy, pardner!

Did you know that the classic American Western Movie got its foothold right here in Kanab? Yup, Hollywood directors fell in love with our beautiful red rock canyons and friendly folks in the early 1920s. And since then, over 300 movies, commercials, and photo shoots have been made in our backyard — earning Kanab the nickname “Little Hollywood.”

Every year, the community celebrates its movie history with Western Legends Round-Up: a celebration of film, music, poetry and Western heritage. This year, Western Legends Round-Up will be even bigger and better!

If you’re cowboy enough, join us Aug. 20–23 for an authentic four-day, three-night wagon train trek though the incomparable Grand Staircase Monument. This will be historic: authentic horse-drawn wagons, cowboy grub, entertainment, and camping under the stars! Cowboys, pioneers, and wranglers are wanted.

The festivities continue Aug. 23–25 in Kanab with more activities:

—Movie star celebrities, dinner with the stars, autographs, and Q&A.

—The Western Movie Film Festival, comprising movies made in southern Utah

—A sanctioned Kansas City Barbeque competition BBQ cookoff.

—Cowboy-mounted shooting competitions.

—Bus and wagon train tours to local movie sets and archeological sites.

—A street fair that includes free entertainment, working period displays, great grub, shoot-outs, and barn dances.

—The Bellamy Brothers, Roo Arcus, and more live in concert.

—A quilt and handicraft show.

—A high-noon parade complete with longhorns, wagons, and cowboys.

Check out westernlegendsroundup.com for all the details and updates. We suggest that you book your accommodations pronto, pardner. And don’t forget that Kanab is surrounded by three national parks and five national monuments — you’ll want to stay awhile!

Cowboy up and be prepared to enjoy a true Western experience — Stetsons, cowboy boots, and prairie skirts are recommend!
