Wind advisory issued for southern Utah… Wind Advisory in effect from 10 am this morning to 8 PM MST

The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from 10 am this morning to 8 PM MST
this evening.

* Affected area… utahs Dixie and Zion National Park, and The
Glen canyon Recreation Area including Lake Powell.

* Winds… southwest 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Winds will
become briefly stronger as they shift to the west then gradually
taper off.

* Timing… gusty southwest winds will develop by late morning
ahead of a cold front. The front will cross the St George area
by mid afternoon reaching Lake Powell late in the afternoon.
Strong west winds will follow the front for a few hours then
diminish.

* Impacts… strong Crosswinds on Interstate 15, and Highway 89
will make for difficult driving conditions, especially for high
profile vehicles and those towing trailers or boats. Blowing
dust may locally reduce visibilities. Hazardous boating
conditions will develop on Lake Powell with large waves forming
on open areas of the lake.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A Wind Advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least
31 mph or gusts of 45 mph are expected. Motorists in the advisory
area should be prepared for sudden gusty cross winds which can
make driving difficult.
