Youthlinc Utah Young Humanitarian Award is a $5,000 college scholarship and $8,500 in runner-up awards for young Utahns who volunteer. Youthlinc is now accepting applications for the 2016 Youthlinc Utah Young Humanitarian Award. The award is open to high school juniors and seniors and undergraduate students in the state of Utah. Applicants must be residents of Utah and U.S. citizens, legal residents, or have DACA status.

“Most of the applicants for the Youthlinc Utah Young Humanitarian Award don’t think they are worthy,” says Youthlinc local service director Jerika Mays. “They often need a teacher or a service supervisor to encourage them to apply.”

Over the last 11 years, there have been nearly 800 student applicants for the award. Each young person has had a unique area of focus in helping others. Past winners of the award have volunteered by mentoring youth, working with refugees, fighting for social equality, or simply spreading small acts of kindness.

“The award not only recognizes Utah young people who give back, it inspires students across the state to volunteer and get involved in their community” says 2015 winner Isreal Santana. “The application process helped me reflect on my own service and brought a renewed commitment to foster a positive change in my community.”

The application deadline is March 16. To apply or for more information, visit youthlinc.org. Contact Mays at jerika@youthlinc.org or (801) 467-4417 ext 2.
