St. George Art Museum Celebrates Hispanic Culture

The St. George Art Museum transforms into a haven of Hispanic culture during the Summer Exhibition Opening Reception, June 1 at 6 PM. Join us in welcoming the works of talented Hispanic artists Zaida Machado and Brandon Jauregui that will be featured this summer at the museum.
“We are so excited to showcase the work of two extremely talented artists for our Summer Exhibition on a night filled with art, culture and music,” said Elena Turman, Administrative Assistant for the St. George Art Museum. “In addition to the eye-catching and thought-provoking art, enjoy the flamenco music of Ricardo Griego!”
Machado, a St. George resident and Utah Tech University alumna, explores Mexican heritage and traditional clothing through her paintings. Her goal is to depict how the body reacts, changes and evokes different emotions in diverse environments. Through her paintings, she seeks to allow herself and the viewer to learn and appreciate their roots and have cultural pride.
Brandon Jauregui is an interdisciplinary artist primarily working in oil on canvas. Based in San Francisco, with roots in Tijuana, Mexico, and San Diego, he graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2018 and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. Brandon has explored an array of genres and techniques ranging from minimalist color theory works to his current genre, which collides an influence of surrealism and symbolic mythology.
Flamenco guitarist Ricardo Griego will provide music for the reception. Studio Art Quilt Associates’ travel exhibit “Sustainability” will also be featured.
Entrance to the museum is free, but donations are welcomed. The Summer Exhibition will run from June 1 to August 24.

About the St. George Art Museum
Located at 47 East 200 North in historic downtown St. George, the former sugar beet seed storage facility was transformed into an elegant showcase for art in 1997. The museum is part of a beautiful arts complex which also includes the Opera House and Social Hall. With over 1,400 pieces in the permanent collection, the mission of the St. George Art Museum is to educate all visitors through quality exhibitions from all periods, cultures and media, as well as to collect, conserve, inventory, exhibit and interpret art and artifacts from Utah and the Western region of the United States. The St. George Art Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
