Renovations and Revelry: What’s Buzzing in Kane County
– By Josh Warburton –
Kane County is preparing for a lively February, with more than just hot air balloons brightening the skies. Many local government buildings are now several decades old, prompting renovation projects to ensure safety, efficiency, and capacity for future growth. County officials are closely monitoring budgets—announcing in a recent release that they are opting to remodel whenever practical, adhering to legal procurement procedures, and hiring local talent so that more funds stay within the community. In addition, they plan to avoid using the general fund unnecessarily, drawing instead on tourism tax and other revenue sources. Click here for a full list of current upgrades.
On the celebratory side, the Balloons and Tunes Roundup returns February 14–16 in Kanab. Expect a vibrant array of balloons drifting across red rock backdrops, accompanied by lively music. This year brings a new twist: the Street Fair and vendor area will move to the old elementary school, thanks to a partnership with the Kane County School District. Organizers note this is a one-year trial, so visitors are encouraged to share feedback on the new venue.
Attendees should also look out for the Wreaths Across America mobile education unit, onsite February 14 and 15 from 10 AM to 7 PM near the balloon festivities. This special exhibit will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, highlighting historical stories and honoring veterans.
