Current Situation:
Crews made progress on containment yesterday, completing handline in the southwest corner up to Forsyth Creek and around the Pine Valley Recreation Area. Additional line construction took place in the Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness, where firefighters worked along the Summit Trail to halt eastern spread. Aircraft support has been critical in recent days, targeting hotspots and applying retardant throughout the Wilderness Area.
In New Harmony, fire crews and heavy equipment continue to reduce roadside fuels and create fuel breaks to protect surrounding communities.
Weather Outlook:
Fire activity may be impacted by unstable weather conditions today, including a higher chance of dry lightning, gusty winds up to 20 mph, and a 25% chance of wetting rain. Microbursts are also possible.
Evacuations and Closures:
Stage 1 Fire Restrictions remain in effect for Washington, Iron, and surrounding counties. Evacuation levels are as follows:
- Set: Pine Valley, Grass Valley, Gray’s Ranch
- Ready: Pinto
Forest Closure Orders are in place for the Pine Valley Ranger District.
