Runners are invited to lace up their running shoes and join Cedar City to experience one of Southern Utah’s fastest, most scenic half marathon races. The annual Cedar City Half Marathon & Adventure 5K returns on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Participants of all abilities are invited to enjoy a memorable race down the scenic Cedar Canyon and into the heart of Cedar City.
The event begins bright and early. Buses will transport all race participants from the Heritage Center Theater in downtown Cedar City to the start line location up Cedar Canyon. Half marathon runners will begin at Wood Ranch at 7 AM, while Adventure 5K participants will start just up the canyon near Rusty’s Ranch House at 7:30 AM.
This is more than just a race. The Cedar City Half Marathon has become a signature annual event that brings athletic achievement to the natural beauty of Iron County. Whether participants are experienced distance runners chasing a personal best or looking to complete their very first race, they can expect to experience a race unlike any other.

One of the defining features of the Cedar City Half Marathon is its unique course. Entirely downhill, runners will descend through Cedar Canyon while surrounded by breathtaking rock formations and the sounds of Coal Creek flowing alongside the roadway. The route winds through dramatic geological formations before transitioning from State Route 14 onto Cedar City’s extensive Coal Creek Trail System for the final miles of the race. The finish line at the Bicentennial Soccer Complex provides a grand finale, where participants can celebrate their accomplishment with family, friends, and fellow runners.
Unlike many road races, the Cedar City Half Marathon offers a rare opportunity to run through a canyon without vehicle traffic. On race morning, Cedar Canyon is temporarily closed to public traffic, allowing participants to focus on the course, the scenery, and the experience rather than nearby vehicles. It’s a feature that has helped make the race a favorite among returning participants year after year.
The event is carefully organized to support runners from start to finish. Aid stations are positioned approximately every two miles throughout the course and are stocked with everything needed to get to the finish line. Medical support is available along the route, and volunteers stationed throughout the course help keep runners safe, informed, and encouraged as they make their way toward the finish line. Entertainment is stationed intermittently along the course provided by local groups and artists—including but not limited to a bagpiper and a 90’s cover band, Empire Records.

Whether competing for a podium finish or crossing the finish line for the first time, the Cedar City Half Marathon welcomes participants of all ages. Participants are encouraged to pick up their race packet on Friday, September 11, at the Heritage Center Theater Lobby, where they’ll receive their race bib, runner bag, and official event shirt. While race-day packet pickup is available, it is recommended to arrive on Friday to avoid the busy race morning schedule. Early packet pickup also gives participants time to familiarize themselves with the event logistics before race day.
The Cedar City Half Marathon & Adventure 5K has grown into more than a competitive running event—it’s a celebration of health, outdoor recreation, and community. Volunteers, participants, community, and local artists all contribute to creating an energetic and encouraging atmosphere.

Whether the goal is to set a new personal record, complete a first 5K, or simply enjoy an unforgettable morning surrounded by some of Utah’s most beautiful scenery, the Cedar City Half Marathon & Adventure 5K offers an experience that combines challenge, community, and adventure. Registration is now open, and runners are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot in one of Cedar City’s premier annual events.
