History takes the stage starting tonight, July 31, as the original musical The United Order of Orderville premieres at Kanab High School. This brand-new community production, written by Kane County Attorney Jeff Stott, promises an entertaining and thought-provoking journey through one of Utah’s most fascinating—and uniquely local—chapters of history.

Performances continue nightly at 7 PM on August 1, 2, 4, and 5—giving you five chances to catch this can’t-miss hometown musical before it wraps.

Inspired by the real United Order settlement that flourished in Orderville in the late 19th century, this lively theatrical experience blends music, storytelling, humor, and heart. The show explores the tension between community unity and individual expression, all through toe-tapping songs, charming choreography, and a whole lot of homegrown talent.

An All-Local Cast and Crew with a Big Story to Tell
Directed by a talented team of local artists—including music director Amy Burrgraaf, choreographer Mikkel Glazier, projection designer Michael McKeon, sound by Tegan Owens, and light by Rob Pearman—the show brings together a broad swath of Kane County residents who, let’s face it, might’ve been your neighbor at the post office yesterday.

From the humorous “Store Bought Pants Rebellion” to heartfelt tunes like “I’ll Light a Fire” and “Somebody Listen,” the original score (with contributions from Mikelle Stott, Matt Stewart, Kristen Stoddard, and others) captures the quirks and conflicts of the real United Order experiment, which asked its members to live communally and give up private property…a big ask, even in pioneer times. As the playbill explains, “no man could say, ‘this is mine,’ and all members were required to deed their property, both real and personal, to the society.”

Jeff Stott—yes, that Jeff Stott, the guy you might’ve seen playing pickleball at the Kanab Center—pulls double duty as playwright and acting director. He’s got a flair for turning historical oddities into compelling drama, and it shows.

More Than Just a Show—It’s a Community Movement
Ticket proceeds (after production costs) benefit the Kane County Center for the Arts (KCCA), an organization dedicated to fostering arts and culture in our rural region. Their mission: to create opportunities for creativity, connection, and lifelong learning. And with a cast that spans from teens to grandparents, from local business owners to Kanab High School students, this production truly embodies that spirit.

The show also features choreography support from the KHS Larriettes (Ariel Pedersen, Ella Willis, Quinn Noel, Bailee Grymes, Allie Corry, and Clara Clarkson), with lighting and sound provided by New Moon Productions. Special thanks go out to community partners like the Kane County Office of Tourism and Kanab City Arts Board for helping bring the project to life.
