As The Stage Door prepares to bring Come From Away to Southern Utah audiences this June, the theater is launching a community initiative designed to celebrate the everyday heroes who make the region a better place.

Based on the true story of the days following Sept. 11, 2001, Come From Away recounts how 39 planes were unexpectedly grounded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, after American airspace was closed. Thousands of stranded passengers suddenly found themselves far from home, and an entire community came together to offer kindness, support, and hospitality during a time of uncertainty.

Inspired by the themes of compassion and human connection found in the musical, The Stage Door is inviting community members to share stories about local heroes whose actions have positively impacted others.

The theater is seeking nominations for individuals whose kindness, service, generosity, bravery, or willingness to help others has made a difference in the community. Organizers encourage submissions highlighting first responders, teachers, mentors, healthcare workers, volunteers, community leaders, neighbors helping neighbors, and individuals who quietly perform acts of kindness without seeking recognition.

Selected stories, quotes, and submissions may be featured in a special theater lobby display during performances of Come From Away. The display is intended to honor the people who strengthen Southern Utah through service and inspire others to pay kindness forward.

Community members may submit their own stories or nominate someone else. Stories may be brief or detailed, but nominees must be living in the Southern Utah area.

“Every act of kindness matters,” organizers said.
