A colorful weekend of art and outdoor activity returns to Kayenta Art Village as the Kayenta Arts Foundation hosts the Kayenta 5K Color Fun Run and the 16th Annual Kayenta Street Painting Festival on April 11–12.
The two-day event combines a community fun run with a large-scale street art festival that transforms the village streets into an outdoor gallery of chalk murals created by professional and student artists.
“The Street Painting Festival turns Kayenta Art Village into a living canvas,” said Miranda Wright, executive director of the Kayenta Arts Foundation. “Paired with the Color Fun Run, it’s a weekend where art, movement, and community come together.”

Street Painting Festival
The 16th Annual Kayenta Street Painting Festival runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Artists will create large-scale chalk murals across the pavement throughout the village, offering visitors an opportunity to watch the artworks develop over the course of the weekend. This year’s theme, “Under One Desert Sky,” highlights the landscapes and community of the Southern Utah desert.
Visitors can walk through the village to view the murals, vote for their favorite pieces, explore galleries, and enjoy food trucks, live music, and family-friendly activities. Admission to the festival is free.
Kayenta 5K Color Fun Run
The Kayenta 5K Color Fun Run takes place Saturday at 8 AM, beginning and ending at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta.
Participants of all ages can run, walk, or stroll the 3.1-mile route through the Kayenta landscape. Along the course, color stations toss powdered paint, leaving runners covered in bright color by the time they reach the finish line.
All participants receive a race T-shirt and swag bag and are encouraged to stay and enjoy the Street Painting Festival following the run. Proceeds from the race support the Kayenta Arts Foundation.
More information about both events is available at kayentaarts.org.
