The St. George Museum of Art is inviting the community to step into a refined take on western culture with its second annual gala and art show, “The Elegant West,” set for May 8. Blending art, atmosphere, and a touch of elevated western style, the evening offers a chance to experience the evolving story of the American West in a setting that feels both polished and distinctly local.

This year’s theme aligns with the Museum’s current exhibition, Unbound: Art of the West, which explores contemporary interpretations of the West through the work of 21 artists. Presented in partnership with Modern West Fine Art, the exhibition highlights both established and emerging voices who challenge traditional ideas of western art, offering something that feels at once familiar and newly defined.

Guests attending the gala are encouraged to lean into the theme with “elevated western evening wear,” setting the tone for a night that blends creativity with a sense of occasion. Inside the Museum, attendees will have the opportunity to move through the exhibition, taking in the artwork while enjoying live country and western music by Kaeli Chae, whose performances have made her a recognizable presence at venues throughout the region.

Beyond the experience itself, the gala plays a meaningful role in supporting the Museum’s mission. As one of its largest annual fundraisers, the event helps sustain free admission and programming, ensuring access to the arts for visitors of all ages. Proceeds from artwork acquired during the event will also contribute to that effort, with a portion benefiting the Museum directly.

The evening is designed to be both celebratory and interactive. Guests can browse and acquire artwork from the “Unbound” exhibition, with each purchase accompanied by a Certificate of Purchase. Those who contribute at a higher level, including donations of $5,000 or more, will be recognized as “Friends of the Museum,” with their names displayed following the gala.

Running from 6 to 8 PM, the event includes a selection of gourmet hors d’oeuvres, with a cash bar presented by Hive 435 Taphouse available for guests 21 and over. Tickets are priced at $75, and those unable to attend are still invited to support the Museum through donations.

Located at 47 E 200 N in the heart of downtown, the St. George Museum of Art has long served as a cornerstone of the local arts community. Housed in a former sugar beet seed storage facility transformed into a gallery space in 1997, the Museum now holds more than 1,200 works in its permanent collection and remains free to the public.

For those looking to experience art in a setting that feels both elevated and accessible, “The Elegant West” offers a thoughtful evening that brings together community, culture, and a fresh perspective on the region’s artistic identity. Learn more or purchase tickets at stgeorgemoa.com.
