As summer heats up, so does the laughter at So U Comedy. Experience fast-paced, unscripted improv comedy live at upcoming shows in June and July. Located in the heart of downtown St. George, So U brings fresh comedy, audience interaction, and unpredictable fun to the stage.
Celebrating its 10th year of improv, So U Comedy Theater continues to entertain audiences with its signature short-form improv style, featuring quick games and scenes made up on the spot using audience suggestions. No two shows are ever alike. Whether it’s a ridiculous character, a surprising plot twist, or an accidental one-liner that leaves the audience in tears from laughing too hard, every performance is a one-night-only experience.
“It all starts with the audience.” Cast member Richard Rose thrives on connection to the audience. “Recently we riffed on suggestions ranging from ‘Ocularist’ to ‘Chee-raff’ (an unlikely yet lovable combo),” noting that each show is one of a kind. At So U shows, the audience, along with the players, have a great time.
“It’s electrifying to play with our hilarious cast. Each performer brings a unique perspective wrapped up with some of the top comedy and acting talent in Southern Utah.”
Presenting family-friendly original content is a central focus of the troupe. In line with their belief that improv is for everyone, So U presents age-appropriate content for younger groups and families looking for entertainment for all ages. Shows take place every other Saturday at the Electric Theater Center (Upper Room 2), with the Family Friendly show at 7 PM, while the 9 PM Uncensored shows are reserved for audiences looking for comedy with fewer limits and more surprises.
In addition to performances, So U Comedy Theater continues its mission to educate with community practices open to anyone interested in learning more about improv in a supportive atmosphere. Participants can learn skills if they hope to perform one day or simply want to build confidence and communication skills.
“Comedy is about connecting as human beings and laughing at the absurd foibles of the human experience. With improv, you have to let your guard down and connect with the other people in the room. And that creates an inclusive environment at our shows,” said Rose.
