One of Southern Utah’s most colorful summer traditions returns June 26–28 as the Panguitch Valley Balloon Rally fills the skies above Garfield County with dozens of hot air balloons, drawing visitors from across the region for a weekend of family-friendly activities and unforgettable views.
Each morning, weather permitting, colorful balloons launch into the open skies above Panguitch, creating a spectacular backdrop against the surrounding mountains and valleys. Hundreds of spectators gather each year to watch the early morning ascensions and experience the unique atmosphere that has made the rally a favorite Southern Utah event.
The weekend also includes one of the rally’s most popular traditions, the Balloon Glow on historic Main Street. As evening falls, illuminated balloons create a vibrant display that transforms downtown Panguitch into a celebration of light, color, and community.
For those looking to be part of the action, the Panguitch Valley Balloon Rally 5K takes place Saturday, June 27. The race begins at the Panguitch High School track while balloons rise overhead, offering runners a uniquely scenic course through town before returning to the track for the finish.
Race-day registration is available from 6 AM to 6:45 AM, with the race beginning at 7 AM. Medals will be awarded to the top 10 male and female finishers. Following the 5K, children are invited to participate in a free kids race around the track.
The event also includes the PHX Alumni and Panguitch Resident Team Challenge, allowing former Panguitch High School alumni, spouses, and current residents to compete for local bragging rights. Teams consist of at least two men and two women, with awards presented to the top teams.
Visitors can also explore local shops, restaurants, and community activities throughout the weekend while enjoying one of Southern Utah’s signature summer events.
