“It’s a dry heat.”
If you’ve lived in Southern Utah for any length of time, you’ve probably said it yourself—or at least heard someone say it while stepping out into a 105-degree afternoon. And while there may be some truth to it, July is still the month when we all become experts at finding shade, planning around the hottest part of the day, and rediscovering just how much there is to do indoors.
The good news is that summer doesn’t slow Southern Utah down—it simply shifts the schedule. Galleries fill with visitors escaping the afternoon sun, theaters dim their lights, live music carries into the evening, and community events find creative ways to make the most of our long summer nights. This month’s issue is full of ideas to help you do exactly that.
This July also brings an opportunity to celebrate something much bigger. Communities across the country are recognizing America’s 250th anniversary with events that honor our nation’s history and the people who continue to shape it. Here in Southern Utah, you’ll find plenty of ways to join the celebration while connecting with the stories that make our own communities unique.
We’re also especially excited about this month’s edition of The Dish. For the first time, we venture into Southern Utah’s growing wine scene with a visit to a local vineyard. It’s always fun to discover something unexpected close to home, and we think this month’s feature may inspire a few new weekend adventures.
Thank you for continuing to support the artists, performers, restaurants, businesses, and organizations that make Southern Utah such a vibrant place to live. Every event attended and every local business supported helps strengthen our community.
Stay cool—and remember, it’s a dry heat.
