In July, Zion Vineyards was busy bottling wines, creating blends, and irrigating the vineyard. The team is looking at some high-quality fruit in 2026, and the clusters of grapes seen on the vine are an indication of a good harvest. Netting was put on to protect the fruit from birds and hail.

Zion Vineyards is coming up on two years working closely with Wood Ash Rye in St. George, hosting wine pairing dinners once a month. The events are dark in August, but on September 17, Zion Vineyards will be working “Dining on Main,” an annual event. This will be a five-course meal paired with five wines; interested guests can sign up online at OpenTable.com. Stay tuned, as Zion Vineyards will be Dining on Main in September with Wood Ash Rye as well.

Zion Vineyards prepares for the 2026 harvest while hosting August Paint and Sip events and readying their award-winning Tempranillo and Primitivo blends for the tasting menu.

The tasting menu welcomes two wines back. The Tempranillo is a full-bodied, smooth-drinking wine, like a Cabernet met a Pinot Noir and had a baby. It features bold notes of cherry and cedar, with intense dark fruit notes including blueberry, currants, and cassis. Savory aromas of butterscotch with a hint of smoke and lightly turned earth provide a beautiful balance of earth and fruit, with a smooth rounded mouthfeel and silky tannins. It is a perfect food wine pairing with flat-iron steaks, classic tomato-based sauces, BBQ, grilled meats, tapas, tacos, burritos, and chile relleno. For dessert, it can be tried with cherry cordials over amaretto ice cream or pecan pie.

The 2023 Primitivo is all Estate Grown in Leeds. Bold, rich, and fruit-forward, it bursts with notes of dark berries such as blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, and plum. These are paired with notes of anise, cinnamon, clove, and dark chocolate, with a hint of earthy pepper and tobacco. Known as “Italy’s Zinfandel,” it has earthy undertones and a velvety, lush mouthfeel. It pairs well with classic red pasta dishes, sweet and spicy BBQ, short ribs, grilled steaks, and roasted meats or lamb.
