Hiking Southern Utah: Kolob Arch and Lee Pass Trail

Hiking Southern Utah: Johnson Canyon and Scout Cave
The combined trails of Johnson Canyon and Scout Cave are an excellent way to spend a few hours hiking, with stunning features including a 200-foot-wide arch, a surprisingly lush spring, stunning views of the Ivins area, and a huge, cathedral-like cave.
Hiking Southern Utah: the mysterious Winchester Hills
Winchester Hills, while better known as a quiet subdivision off State Route 18 and east of Snow Canyon State Park, is also an interesting, slightly mysterious area of land owned by the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) that is open to exploration.
Hiking Southern Utah: Whiterocks Amphitheater to Awesome Chasm Traverse
The traverse from the Whiterocks Amphitheater to Awesome Chasm is not a route for the faint of heart. Depending on the route taken, this adventure climbs up and over numerous small peaks en route to the spectacular gap of Awesome Chasm (I climbed at least seven peaks on the route.) This route is essentially trailless and as such requires excellent route-finding ability. Consider yourself warned.
Hiking Southern Utah: Blake-Gubler Trail
In an area blessed with an abundance of hiking riches, the B-G stands out as one of the most beautiful spots in Washington County. Despite this, the trail is infrequently trodden and provides not only spectacular scenic beauty but solitude and peace as well.
Hiking Southern Utah: Emerald Pools Trail
After approximately a half mile, you will reach the lower pools. Enjoy the majestic green foliage and waterfalls that spill off the sandstone walls from the middle pool on the shelf above the lower pool.
Hiking Southern Utah: Checkerboard Mesa
Checkerboard Mesa is one of the iconic landmarks in Zion National Park. Located on the less-frequented east side of the park, an ascent of this beautiful mountain provides for an exciting hike with spectacular scenery and quiet vistas.
Hiking Southern Utah: Snow Canyon State Park has short trails for young hikers
Snow Canyon State Park is a wonderful place for young hikers. Trails are relatively short and have minimal elevation gain. Coupled with outstanding scenery, many of the hikes in the park are perfectly suited for young hikers with short legs and even shorter attention spans. Some of these hikes are short enough that they can be combined for a grand day of adventure.
Hiking Southern Utah: Mill Canyon Trail
The Mill Canyon Trail is a spectacular hike in the Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness that leads through a narrow canyon lined with towering crags, a rich forest of fir and aspen (particularly beautiful in fall), and a seasonal stream.
