The Orchestra of Southern Utah announced its 2017–18 season, entitled “Artful Wonders.” The concert series began Sept. 5 with Performances by local teachers David Jordan, Trevor Walker, Nina Hansen, and Richard McMaster as well as Jack Vickers, the Red Hill Rangers, and the Accidental 5 Quintet. It continues Sept. 12 through April 12.
—Sept. 12: The orchestra describes this concert as a “celebration of the joy and light around us.”
—Sept. 19: Iconic music from both classic and contemporary movies.
—Sept. 26: Featuring the music of Baroque composers Henry Purcell and J.C. Bach and Romantic Era composers in addition to a performance by the MB3 Jazz Quartet.
—Oct. 12: Works by Bizet, Vaughn Williams, and Shostakovich.
—Nov. 9: A Mozart-only concert including his “Requiem.”
—Dec. 10 and 11: Handel’s “Messiah.”
—Feb. 10, 2018: Children’s Jubilee.
—Feb. 22, 2018: The orchestra describes this concert as featuring “music celebrating wonders such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Taj Mahal.”
—April 12, 2018: Featuring guest artists from the Aerobatics Gym.
Each Tuesday in September, the orchestra will host the 18th annual Fall Recital Series. Each recital has a unique theme and a different set of performers. The recitals begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
