SUU Opera Theater pays tribute to Stephen Sondheim

In anticipation of Stephen Sondheim’s upcoming 90th birthday, SUU Opera Theater will perform a tribute concert titled “All Sondheim” Nov. 13–16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall of the SUU music building. This concert is free and open to the public.
Students will perform songs from “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Into the Woods,” “A Little Night Music,” “Sunday in the Park with George,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Follies,” “Company,” “Assassins,” “Evening Primrose,” and “Anyone Can Whistle.”
Sondheim’s work as a composer and lyricist over the past four decades has set the standard for modern American musical theater. He has won seven Tony Awards for his songwriting and received a Pulitzer Prize for “Sunday in the Park with George.” His mentor and surrogate father was Oscar Hammerstein.
