One-Dose COVID-19 Vaccine Now Available Starting Today
ST. GEORGE, UTAH – The Southwest Utah Public Health Department (SWUPHD) is offering COVID-19 vaccine made by Johnson & Johnson, which only requires one dose, on Wednesday, March 10 for eligible groups that now include anyone age 50 or over and certain health conditions (such as diabetes, kidney disease, and a BMI of 30+). There are also still openings for clinics this week offering first doses of the Moderna vaccine.
To sign up online for these SWUPHD vaccine clinics, visit swuhealth.org/covid-vaccine. Scroll down and click the link for the Johnson & Johnson clinic at the St. George Senior Center. A consent form can also be printed from the website to fill out and bring to the appointment. Wear a short-sleeved shirt and arrive about five minutes before your appointment. There is no cost for the vaccine.
The SWUPHD will continue to add new clinic dates and appointments on their website for the five-county area. New dates are often added on Monday mornings at 9 AM until filled. To get text alerts for additional openings during the week, text “swuhealth” to the number 888777. The health department’s other clinics are using the Moderna vaccine, which requires a second dose 4 to 6 weeks after the first.
Washington County has been lowered to “Moderate” status for pandemic guidelines due to decreasing new cases and hospitalizations. To continue this trend, we encourage all residents to get vaccinated when able and – in the meantime – continue to maintain distancing, wear masks when within 6 feet of others in public, wash hands, and stay home if sick.
