Making The Best Of An Unfortunate Situations

– By James McFadden –

From Our May Print Issue…

As we navigate this new normal we all knew was sure to come, I can’t help but wonder, just how normal will things ever be again? While it might not hurt our elected officials in their fancy homes with their wealthy lifestyles; making ends meet has become quite the challenge for many. And if that wasn’t bad enough, they dutifully add insult to injury when those selfsame officials seem to find a great deal of humor in it all as they mock us from their lofty towers, pointing their fingers at us as we struggle to make it through each day.

It is in these trying times, that some things become much more important if we are to find peace and bring joy to those with whom we love and respect. While making friends and standing up for one another is something we should all strive to do each day, now more than ever, it’s imperative we make a more conscious effort to do so.

It really doesn’t take much to be mindful of each other. All it takes is a desire to do so.

With the noses of the world stuck, no, glued to their smartphones, some even while driving, it’s not too difficult to make a few important decisions that will alter our trajectory. Decisions that include how we treat each other from day to day.

I have always taught my children, “A person’s true character can be best measured if you observe them when they are driving their car.” It seems so simple, but for me, I learned that if I can improve my temperament and behavior while I’m driving in my car, the rest comes very easily.

I mean, just imagine us all behaving the way we often do when we’re all in a hurry to get somewhere and we feel like people aren’t paying attention or driving very well, only we’re pushing our carts through the grocery store. Why is it we can be courteous and thoughtful in the grocery store but absolutely horrible human beings to each other while we’re driving! It just doesn’t make sense!

Let’s do everyone a huge favor and take the time to slow things down a little bit and return to that side of us who is genuinely kind and caring; while we’re driving our cars…

It’s just a thought. Be safe out there and remember. We’re all gliding through life on the same blue marble so let’s take better care of each other! Have a wonderful month my friends!
