ST. GEORGE, UT – December 16, 2022. The Independent’s Southern Utah Adoptable Pets Guide features adoptable pet adoption from various animal shelters throughout southern Utah. Bring home your new best friend in time for the holidays.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located five miles north of Kanab at 5001 Angel Canyon Road. All adoptable cats and dogs are spayed or neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have questions about a specific pet or the adoption process, please email adoptions@bestfriends.org. If you’d like to apply to adopt one of these featured pets, click the link to their bio where you will find the adoption survey.

Trinity

Once Trinity warms up to you, which happens fairly quickly, she is very affectionate. She loves to be around people and to lean in for cuddles and pets, and it doesn’t take her long to get attached. She loves to play with people too. At the dog park, she would rather follow the person she’s with than explore the park on her own.

Trinity walks great on a leash and rides nicely in the car. She responds well to positive reinforcement and is quite smart. Although she can be slightly nervous when new people enter her space, she does greet people well.

Trinity was born in 2014. Due to a history of aggression toward other dogs, she should be a single dog in a home with no other animals, including cats. She already knows basic training cues such as ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and is doing training with Dogtown caregivers to reduce her reactivity to other dogs while on walks. She’s also working on crate training and muzzle training. Currently, she eats a prescription diet and takes medication for an enlarged heart.

Trinity will be a great companion in a home where she can be someone’s one and only. Trinity has a generous sponsor who has covered her adoption fee.

Zion

Zion is a senior guy who would enjoy a couch of his own. He needs time and patience to be comfortable with new people; it will talk multiple walks and interactions with him until Zion is comfortable enough to go home with you. He enjoys slow-paced walks, car rides, swimming in pools, and playing with his toys. Zion needs to be the only animal I’m the home. If you think you have room in your heart for Zion, please contact an adoption coordinator today

She would appreciate it! She is ready and deserving of a loving family that can give her a furever home! Her adoption fee is $60.

Mixie

Mixie is approximately 7 months old. She came to the shelter with her brother Jack. She is one of the most socialized-loving kittens we have seen in a long time. She is very inquisitive and there is not a cupboard, drawer, or corner she doesn’t want to explore. She comes when called and just loves sitting on your lap and getting attention. Her adoption fee is $40.

Jack

Jack is approximately 7 months old. He came to the shelter with his sister Mixie. Jack doesn’t miss a trick or anything going on around him. He explores everywhere. He wants to be with you receiving the attention he so rightly deserves. He will come when called. Jack would love to find his furever home. His adoption fee is $40.

Felix

Felix is approx. 1.5  years old and a handsome gray/white large tiger cat with personality plus (once he gets to know you). He is a very affectionate and sweet boy who loves being around his people. But, Felix is shy of new people at first so when you go visit him, sit patiently and let him come to you. Once he knows you, he is your best friend. He likes sitting on laps and being petted – he loves attention. Felix is a talkative boy and has a lot to say, and he is rather mellow for such a young boy. Her adoption fee is $40.

Maxwell

Eight-year-old Maxwell suddenly found himself an orphan when his owner unexpectedly died and, understandably, doesn’t like to be left alone. He’s a sweet boy who enjoys playing with other dogs but doesn’t like cats and isn’t fond of kids either.

Maxwell’s foster says he’s about 80% housebroken. She also said he is a Houdini and will hide and then try to escape. His adopter will need to keep a close eye on him so he doesn’t dash out the door. This behavior may disappear once he feels secure and comfortable in his new loving home.

Ozzy

Tiny Ozzy is only six months old and he’s housebroken, crate trained, rides well in a car, and gets along with kids, cats, and other dogs. He’s the cutest little thing ever…the perfect addition to your family this Christmas!

Ozzy will be available LOCALLY ONLY as a foster to adopt until he’s neutered on December 15th, at which time his adoption will be finalized and this sweet baby boy will be all yours forever

Frogger

Frogger is friendly, sweet, and outgoing. He’s very social and loves playing with other dogs. He even seems to get along with cats!!! He would make an awesome addition to any family!

We estimate Frogger’s age at six years because of the condition of his teeth. He is available LOCALLY ONLY as a foster to adopt until he gets a dental at which time his adoption can be finalized and this big hunk of a boy will become all yours!

Dash

Some Native American cultures believe having heterochromia (one blue eye and one brown) means one can see heaven and earth at the same time. They refer to this as having Ghost Eyes and beautiful Dash definitely has them. And if his eyes don’t melt your heart, his cute little nose will! Not only is he stunning, but he is also a total love bug who will melt right into your arms.

Dash was dumped at Parowan Gap and lived on his own for at least two weeks. One of the local families put food out for him until he became brave enough to be coaxed inside where he immediately found the couch. He was good with their kids and dogs.

Dash is young (we’re guessing six months to a year) and has a lot of energy. He likes to play with other dogs but can be enthusiastic so he’ll do best with some training. He’s afraid of loud noises and sudden movements and terrified of water from a hose. Who knows what this sweet boy went through before he was left to fend for himself. He deserves so much better.

Diamond

Eight-year-old Diamond is a gentle girl who would give anything to be in an easy-going home with someone special who will take her on leisurely walks and activities and smother her with hugs! She adores sitting in the shady grass and just being loved on.

The poor girl was rescued from a kill shelter in California and, even though she’s safe now, she’s not a fan of being kenneled and would much prefer sitting on a couch with her humans all day watching soap operas.

Diamond enjoys the company of other dogs and will gently remind those that are too playful to be respectful of her age. She’s not a grumpy old lady though–if you ever want a laugh, just get a toy out and watch her play. She steals everyone’s hearts. She has lots of love in her and just needs someone to share it with.

Roxy

Roxy needs a playmate!  This girl is so affectionate, full of life, and smart, smart, smart!!! She wants nothing more than get outside and play ball, tug, you name it–she just wants to play!

Unfortunately, life changes didn’t allow pretty Roxy to stay with her family and she has to be re-homed. She’s a wonderful girl (did we mention that she’s smart?) who needs someone with an active lifestyle and time to help develop her mind. She would probably be a great agility dog, frisbee fetcher, and/or running/hiking partner. And once she’s worn you out, she’ll snuggle up to you on the couch for cuddles and cookies. (Exercise and cookies- you can’t lose!) And can you imagine gazing into those gorgeous eyes every day?
