Kanab, Utah, has been announced as the winner of a social media contest held by Alex Boye to give folks in the small towns of Utah a chance to vote him to their town to perform. After the announcement, Boye originally scheduled two concerts at the Kanab High School Auditorium for Jan. 22 and 23 at 7 p.m.; however, the performances nearly sold out so quickly that Boye decided to add a third concert at 2 p.m. Jan. 23.
“Alex has such a diverse group of followers from multiple generations,” said director of Kane County tourism Ken Gotzenberg. “The people of Kanab are hungry for quality entertainment. We aren’t surprised at the success.”
Boye has been featured on shows such as “America’s Got Talent” and “The X Factor.” He has performed a wide variety of music including, jazz, pop, hip hop, gospel, heavy metal and even emo. He sang in The Piano Guys’ cover of Coldplay’s “Paradise” called “Peponi,” which has over 43 million views on YouTube.
Both of Boye’s parents were born in Nigeria. He was raised in the U.K. For years, his mother urged him to put an African twist on his music. After seeing the success of “Peponi,” he has embraced the Africanized style.
“I think above all, people respond to an artist’s honesty and integrity,” Boye has said, “and I feel like I am being true to myself in a way I have never been.”
The residents of Kanab are excited to get to see Boye in their hometown.
“We worked hard to get the word out so folks would vote for Kanab and we’re ecstatic we won!” said Camille Johnson, Kane County’s assistant director of tourism. “Everyone was so excited to get their tickets as soon as the site went live!”
While the evening shows to see Alex Boye in Kanab are almost full, tickets are still available for all three shows online at ticketor.com/alexboye.
