On Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. until noon, economist Andrew Peterson will give a lecture about the founding and economics of Silver Reef in the late 19th century. The lecture will be given at the Silver Reef Museum in Leeds and is free and open to the public.
Peterson’s lecture will cover silver mining, labor actions, currency from the period, the impact of Silver Reef on Washington County, and the importance of U.S. legislation and world events on Silver Reef.
Peterson has lived in Southern Utah for three years and works as an accountant in St. George. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Cornell University and a master’s degree in accountancy from Southern Utah University. He is also the treasurer of the Silver Reef Foundation, which operates the Silver Reef Museum.
