The Southern Utah Art Guild proudly presents the opening of its new art gallery on Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the new Electric Theater Center, located at 68 E Tabernacle St. in St. George. The gallery name selected is Arrowhead Gallery ETC. The art gallery is named after the prior tenant of the building, the Arrowhead Department Store, with “ETC” standing for “Electric Theater Center.”
Arrowhead Gallery ETC plans to have over thirty artists on hand showcasing their original artwork. Michael Zabriskie, member of the board of directors for the Southern Utah Art Guild and organizing committee member, said they will feature all types of artistic media.
“We have photography. We have oil. We have realist paintings, watercolor, abstract, three-dimensional, potters, and metal sculptors,” Zabriskie said. “We have a really nice mix of art.”
Zabriskie said all the artists are local members of the Southern Utah Art Guild. He also said they while most spaces are filled, they are still accepting applications, but to showcase work in Arrowhead Gallery ETC, an artist needs to already be a member of the Guild or apply for membership.
“It’s an amazing group and some amazing art,” Zabriskie said. “A few people that have come through already have said that this is a really professional gallery. It’s a great asset for art in southern Utah.”
Zabriskie said that all of the art at Arrowhead Gallery ETC will be for sale. “We encourage buyers to come,” he said with a chuckle.
In addition to the soft opening on Tuesday, Arrowhead Gallery ETC is holding an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 15, from 5 to 9 p.m., which coincides with Arts to Zion. Arts to Zion is the art community’s equivalent of the Parade of Homes, offering visitors a chance to see artists working in their home studios and galleries where they can visit the artists in their environments to see what inspires their imaginations. Arts to Zion is a self-guided adventure through beautiful, mountainous, breathtaking countryside. More than 72 artists will be participating in 2016, many from Washington County as well as several notable visiting artists who are represented in local galleries. Participating artists will have original pieces of art on display at a silent auction held at the Arts to Zion Showcase.
