Dancing Aspens is a brilliant explosion of color and line that stands out from other sculptures in its simplicity and sleek design. Although it resembles the shape of an aspen tree that has been shedding its leaves for autumn, the colors are like a spring meadow exploding with new life. It is fun and playful to the eye, yet still it evokes a sense of nature and wild imagination. Centered between Tabernacle and 100 S., in town square, the piece can be found right in the heart of downtown.
The artist, Reven Marie Swanson, resides in Colorado. Swanson began her professional career in 1987 by exhibiting her works throughout Colorado and Italian venues. Now her works are exhibited nationwide. She is a world-renowned artist who has won numerous awards and honors and has an extensive collection on permanent display.
According to her website, “Reven has been fascinated by how the human figure can be used to create a powerful expression. Her figures tend to be well-endowed, portraying substance rather than shallow objects of beauty. Within each figure, she seeks to develop flowing lines that capture negative space and energy. …”
We are fortunate to have this piece as part of Art Around the Corner’s downtown temporary collection. Stroll by, or sit awhile and take in the movement of this piece as it literally dances with color in the breeze. Either way, Dancing Aspens is sure to bring a smile to your face.
