Art Attack 1 Mile & 5 Mile Fun Run Brings Art & Exercise To The St. George Art Festival

Amid the colorful tapestry of the St. George Art Festival, the third annual Art Attack 1 Mile and 5K Run offers exercise in an atmosphere filled with creativity and inspiration. Scheduled for 9 a.m. on March 30 at Historic Town Square (50 S. Main Street), participants will run through downtown St. George, beginning and ending at the splash pads.

“This race brings together the energy of the local running scene along with the vibrant artistic soul of St. George,” said Aaron Metler, Recreation Manager for Races and Special Events. “This year we have included a 5K component to the race which only adds to what will be a lively morning.”

The Art Attack charms individuals of all ages and abilities. With a wide range of race categories and exciting prizes, the Art Attack will be filled with fitness, fun and artistic flair.

The Art Attack has several categories, including:

  • First Responders
  • Costumes
  • Elite Men (under 5-minute mile)
  • Elite Women (under 6-minute mile)
  • Open (non-elite)
  • Seniors (65 and older)
  • Strollers
  • Kids (12 and under)
  • All Abilities Fun Run Walk N’ Roll
  • Bikestock (12 and under can choose to ride the course)

First-place male and female finishers in each category will receive artwork as prizes, courtesy of the Southern Utah Art Guild (SUAG). These unique pieces of artwork come from a variety of mediums, such as painting, photography, mixed media, and wirework. Winners will also receive an Elvis Presley bobblehead doll.

All participants will receive a finisher medal and exclusive Art Attack socks. Attendees can also enter drawings at the SUAG booth for a chance to win artwork, as well as pose for pictures at art-themed photo stations along the course.

“When the race is over, enjoy the rest of your morning by touring the various artist booths and food options at the Art Festival,” Metler added.

The St. George Art Festival began in 1980, showcasing the many artists who call St. George their home. Over the years, it has expanded to include over 160 artists juried from hundreds of entries from throughout the United States. Over 30,000 residents and visitors from around the West converge on St. George and enjoy thousands of original works of art, live entertainment, a vibrant children’s area and all types of food.
