Night sky observers will be able to see the final lunar eclipse of the “Jewish Feast Blood Moon Tetrad” that will reach totality on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 8:47 p.m. According to some prognosticators, this eclipse may signify the coming of the end days.

According to NASA, the tetrad has occurred five times in the past 100 years; however, it has only fallen on a Jewish holy day three times in the past 600 years. A blood moon tetrad is comprised of four total lunar eclipses in a row that each land on a Jewish Feast Day. Some believers think that it could be a signal that God is getting ready to move on the world stage.

There are three types of lunar eclipses: partial, penumbral, and total. A total lunar eclipse—also called a blood moon—is the rarest because the sun, moon, and Earth must be perfectly lined up at a time when the moon is also full. At the peak of a total lunar eclipse, the moon will appear blood red. This lunar eclipse will also be unique because it will also be a so-called supermoon eclipse, something that has not occurred in 32 years and will not happen again for another 18 years.

The predictions that the end of the world will be announced by a blood moon are based on several verses from the Bible. The most significant is in Joel. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come: Joel 2:31 KJV.

This is backed up in Acts. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: Acts 2:20 KJV.

It is also referred to in Revelation. And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood: Revelation 6:12 KJV.

When looking for a literal blood moon tetrad prophecy there doesn’t seem to be a direct link from the Bible to a tetrad, but there is a link to this tetrad. It starts with a prophecy from Daniel 9:24 through 9:27. Verse 24 includes this:

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

The “Seventy Weeks” prophecy in Daniel has been a favorite of doomsayers for millennia, and there are multiple ways to interpret it. But one interpretation points to this tetrad. Hang on while I walk you through the math.

June 7, 1967, was the seventh day after the Six Day War, the day when the land of the Jewish people was returned. Some say this was predicted by Leviticus. And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family: Leviticus 25:10 KJV. This points to the start of the final seven “weeks” of Daniel’s seventy weeks. Counting 49 360-day cycles from June 7, 1967, comes to September 23, 2015 (49 years x 360 days per year = 17,640 days). This is based on 360-day cycles and not incorporating the leap month roughly every three years that can be found in the Metonic lunar moon cycle.

Whew!

Pastor John Hagee, who leads Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, wrote a bestselling book about the tetrad just before it started in 2014 called “Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change.” Sales of the book reflect the serious concern believers have regarding this phenomenon: over 3,000 reviews of the book have been posted at Amazon.com, and Hagee has sold hundreds of thousands of copies of his book.

In any case, a total lunar eclipse is a beautiful occurrence that happens whenever the Earth’s shadow blocks the sun’s light that would normally reflect off the moon. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see it. Who knows? The world could end before you get another chance.
