Arts Council Summer Social

August 22nd, 2021 in Cedar City

Add some drama, art, and music to your summer at the Community Social hosted by the Cedar City Arts Council on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 7 PM at the IMPAC studio, 389 North 100 West, Suite 7.  This is a free public event designed to help build our arts community.

Brandon Burk and Tamara Merkley will introduce the

InterMountain Performing Arts Conservatory (IMPAC). It is a specialized training facility for artists who want to excel in various disciplines of musical theatre, including acting, dance, and vocal music.  “Our mission is to build confidence and provide the highest quality education in the performing arts through hands-on experience and instruction from accomplished artists in order to prepare our students for work on the professional stage,” said Burk. Their website is at https://im-pac.com/.

Two recent recipients of Cedar City Arts Council mini-grants will also present at the August Social. Kimber Gardner is a popular artist at the Final Friday Art Walks. She will have an exhibit of her work at the Social. Kimber describes her art journey, “In 2019 my husband was stationed in the Mojave Desert for 8 months, and with nothing around for miles, I began creating every day and found fulfillment with it. I’ve always preferred watercolor or acrylic but am always looking for opportunities to try new things. I enjoy watercolor, cross stitching/embroidery, acrylic on figurines, painting rocks, digital art, photo restoration, murals and window painting. When I’m not painting I’m usually outside with my dogs, chickens or garden, trying new recipes, writing my first novel or thinking of what I should be doing. Art for me should be fun, visually stimulating and expressive. To see my work I’m on all social media @twofullmoonsart”

Amanda Clarke directs the Kolob Canyon String Camp that brings nationally prominent musicians to Cedar City to work with local students each June.  She has taught violin for many years. Previously she helped direct the Bryce Canyon String Camp and she has been a soloist with the Orchestra of Southern Utah.  A group of string students will perform at the Social.

Mini-grants are awarded twice a year for projects up to $500 that benefit the arts community. Individuals and groups may apply.  The next deadline is August 31 and the application is at https://www.cedarcityartscouncil.org/support/quick-grants/

Cole & Nikki Chiaramonte of the Pub & Pie Shop will provide refreshments for the Social. Their business is located at the corner of Main and Center in the Boomers Building.

The Cedar City Arts Council hosts three arts socials each year to help connect the arts community. You are invited to attend. For more information contact cedarcityartscouncil@gmail.com
