Chamber Inspiration Luncheon features Jesse Shipp, doctors who saved son’s life
This Wednesday, June 3, the St. George Chamber of Commerce’s “Inspiration” luncheon, to be held at the Courtyard by Marriott located at 185 S 1470 E in St. George, will feature Jesse Shipp, father of Santa Clara youth Britton Shipp, along with the Dixie Regional Medical Center doctors who saved Britton’s life. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the program will begin at noon.
At this luncheon, Shipp will speak about his son’s incredible recovery and the community that has rallied around him. Neurosurgeon Ben Fox, who first operated on Britton when he was rushed to the emergency room, will also speak along with Neuro Rehabilitation director Rusty Moore, who has said that’s he’s never seen anything like Britton’s recovery before.
Britton Shipp slipped into a coma in November 2014 after an ATV accident that occurred during a school dance-related activity. After months of rehabilitation, Shipp miraculously returned home in April. Having had to relearn all motor functions, Shipp’s perseverance and attitude are reasons the St. George community has rallied around him.
Shipp’s sister Autumn maintains a blog detailing Britton’s progress. In a recent entry, she discusses the kind of community support Britton and his family have received.
“He went to a convention the other night with all of the first responders who were at the scene the day of the accident, the life flight crew, the ambulances, everyone. They presented Britton’s case and did a big presentation on it. I didn’t get to go but my dad said it was so awesome, and they gave him a huge standing ovation and had him give a speech. He is so thankful for those special people who were there for him the day of his accident, as are we. They saved his life and acted perfectly and appropriately when he had seconds if not that to live. We will forever have a special spot for them in our hearts. The love they have shown our family and my brother the past 7 months has been absolutely incredible. And we could never repay them for what they did for him that day,” Autumn wrote.
