DOCUTAH Brings International Documentaries To Southern Utah

St. George, UT – As 2021 brings more opportunities to engage socially, DOCUTAH International Documentary Film Festival™ is thrilled to be back on track for Nov 1st – 6th, 2021 with an expanded Festival. The Festival expands to 100 films, including all films accepted in 2020 plus those accepted from 2021 submissions. We think of St. George as the Patron Saint of Documentary; The City has certainly given DOCUTAH a great home. The Festival provides a pure format – documentary only – combined with an intimate, global, and exciting experience.
What makes a Festival different from the streaming experience all of us have been forced into during the Pandemic? Special events, intimate chats with filmmakers, and that most important element mingling with film FANatics. When combined with appearances of subjects from the films, live performances by the musicians, and the performers featured in those films; the audience is in for a rare treat.

Opening the Festival on November 1 is the film’s premiere screening, Into the Fire: A Utah Boy’s Life in the Blues, which starts with a ticketed WINE & SOUTHERN COOKIN’ appetizer reception to Get in the Mood for the Blues. The film screening is followed by a performance by Dick Earl’s Electric Witness, the nationally recognized hometown blue band.
Tuesday, November 2, DOCUTAH presents American Tap. As a quintessentially American art form, the origins of Tap Dance wind through our history from Congo Square, through Minstrelsy, the Jazz Age, World War II, and into modernity. Fueled by genius and challenged by adversity, it has undergone recession and rebirth to emerge vital and relevant in the new century. This film digs into the heritage of American tap dancing and the cultural fire that forged this important art form.
Following the screening, get set for a lively solo performance by Sarah Reich, Artistic Director, Tap Music Project, and DSU student Jazz Ensemble participating with this stellar performer.
Wednesday, November 3, Boulevard! A Hollywood Story – Reception & World Premiere
Come celebrate the “very best of Utah production” at this exclusive event! First, the Southern Utah Wine Guild will present a ticketed tasting of Southern Utah-produced craft brews and wines. Sample the best vintages and beers made in our own backyard, along with hors d’oeuvres. Then stay for the world premiere screening of Boulevard! A Hollywood Story, produced by Santa Clara’s own John Boccardo. Boulevard! is the story of Dickson Hughes and Richard Stapley, young songwriters and romantic partners, who found themselves caught in movie star Gloria Swanson’s web, who hired them to write a musical version of Sunset Boulevard. It’s a strange Hollywood tale, but it’s all true! John Boccardo will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A. The reception and premiere screening are $40. Thursday, November 4, Red Carpet event for the Screening of ForeverMoore; The Angelo Project
Fire up the klieg-lights and get ready for the red carpet as Angelo Moore returns to the 2021 DOCUTAH Festival with the new film, ForeverMoore; The Angelo Project. This special event will feature a red carpet welcome and photo booth, a wine and cheese reception, a fabulous film, and a jam session with Angelo and his new band, The Brand New Step, performing live at DSU’s Eccles Main Stage.
Ska, punk, funk, metal, reggae, and soul fusion master, and lead singer of Fishbone, Angelo devotes his life to weaving a legacy: crafting art through spoken word, music, and fashion. As a Black American forerunner in the early ’80s LA punk rock scene, he inspired others to embrace nonconformity. Living the life “of the famous but not rich,” Angelo pours ideas into everything he touches and makes beauty out of the darkness. Separate ticket required—$ 25 general admission/$10 with Student ID. Feel free to dress to impress!
